Resonance of Resistance

Five unique voices – one shared truth: music as resistance, memory, connection, return, and renewal. In Resonance of Resistance we follow a multimedia artist, a techno producer, a music therapist, an underwater-dancer, and a violinist in their search for synchronization. Each of them develops their own methods to resist fragmentation, draw new strength, and create connection. Their stories let us experience that rhythm is more than sound – it is survival, belonging, and resonance – and they invite us to rediscover our own ways of synchronizing with others.

Resonance of Resistance explores the power of music and silence in times of fragmentation. The documentary follows five remarkable individuals on their search for synchronisation. Driven by different personal conflicts, each protagonist is compelled to do what they do in order to restore balance within themselves. In this process, they develop personal ways to resist growing individualisation, regain strength, and create connection.
Vera Lytovchenko performs concerts in Kharkiv’s bunkers, offering comfort and preserving cultural identity. Nigel Osborne uses rhythm to help wounded soldiers return to life. Berlin-based artist Jason Snell explores the womb as our first sound space and makes the alpha state – between calm and alertness – audible. Apnea diver and dancer Julie Gautier finds silence and surrender in the ocean, and techno producer Fred P experiences the dance floor as the only place where he can truly connect with others.
The film unfolds like a rhythmic composition. Everyday sounds are transformed: classical music overlays mundane atmospheres, urban impulses are looped and layered, and rhythms condense into polyrhythmic structures. A shared pulse emerges, revealing hidden order within the world’s apparent chaos.
From war-traumatised soldiers finding their way back through rhythm, to surrendering control in the silence of the ocean and the dance floor as a rare space of human connection, these stories intertwine into a cinematic reflection on sound and body, memory and presence.
Resonance of Resistance is an invitation to experience rhythm as survival, belonging, and a force that reconnects us with one another.
